Sorry it's been a while since I last posted. Very busy time here in Tokyo. But not so busy that I'd miss a great performance. So yesterday it was Kabuki at the National Theatre of Japan and it was great!

We saw Ichi no Tani Futaba Gunki, a historical drama about a famous battle between the Genji and Heike clans. Very exciting and dramatic. 4+ hours with two intermissions of about 30 minutes each. Enough time to grab a bento in the lobby and eat.

We liked it so much we are going back in April for a tragic tail of revenge - Ehon Gappo ga Tsuji (The Villainous Taheji). Supposedly "instead of a revenge play as the triumph of good over evil, this play shows the exuberant rampage of the villains until finally, they are defeated at a terrible cost to the heroes". I'll let you know how it goes.

Here are some more pics from the National Theatre. Although it looks foreboding on the outside it is beautiful inside.
