Tofukuji

In November we traveled to Kyoto to do some field recording and enjoy the fall weather in one of the most beautiful cities in Japan. Our first place to visit in Kyoto was the Buddhist temple complex at Tofukuji.

It was a beautiful fall day and the leaves had just begun to turn.

Tofukuji was originally built in 1236 and then rebuilt in the 15th century. Amongst other national treasurers it has the oldest Sammon gate dating to 1425.

We were lucky to be there on a very quiet and uncrowded day.

Even the Garden of the Hojo was uncrowded and made a wonderful place to just rest a moment.

A perfect start for our week in Kyoto.
